                                           What is a short film:

A short film is a motion picture that tells a complete story in a more condensed format than a feature film while still requiring all the same creative filmmaking elements such as script writing, directing, cinematography, editing etc.

 

Possible ideas for short film:

Laser tag battle:

Pros - Can play around with shot types, fun & easy to plan, interesting to watch if executed correctly, can show off editing skills

Cons - Actors?, prop sourcing, could be time consuming, has to be detailed enough to stay engaging for 4-5mins

Football match:

Pros - Easy to get actors, can play around with shot types, fun to record, lots of films to get inspiration from

Cons - Unique from other classmates?

Chase thriller:

Pros - interesting, fairly simple

Cons - Not easy to do in a school setting, actors?

Mocumentary on a topic:

Pros - Not too complicated, not many actors needed, quick

Cons - could be too simple, not easy to show off editing skills, can be bland

 

Tips for making a short film:

• Focus on a single storyline (not much time for subplots and excess characters).
• Limit locations (easy and accessible locations for shooting).
• Minimize characters (Keep your characters to 3-5 core people).
• No overly complex CGI shots or shots requiring hours in after effects
• Be concise with dialogue.
